Inequitable Distribution of Teachers

Teacher evaluation systems have been a pillar of recent efforts to improve instruction and ensure that all students have access to highly effective educators. The UChicago Consortium on School Research has been at the forefront of national efforts to understand how these evaluations are playing out in schools, and how they might be improved. The Consortium has been studying teacher evaluations in Chicago Public Schools since 2008. A Joyce-funded 2016 study of REACH, the new teacher evaluation system, showed that teachers with the lowest evaluation scores are overrepresented in schools serving the most disadvantaged students.
